Busch Stadium: 7/4/08
Cardinals vs Cubs

It was a festive occasion as the heated rivals who currently sit atop the National League faced off on the 4th of July. Jim Edmonds received a standing ovation in his return to Busch Stadium, and went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts on the night. Carlos Zambrano and Braden Looper served up a pitchers dual with Zambrano keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard as he’s prone to do. Albert Pujols hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 8th for his 300th career homerun to cut the Cubs lead to 2-1, but the home plate umpire stymied the Cards chances in the bottom of the 9th with some highly questionable strike calls and the game ended 2-1.
