The Cardinals roughed up Randy Johnson for 4 runs in the 1st, capped by a 3-run bomb by Ryan Ludwick. Albert Pujols went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs to pad his MVP worthy numbers. Kyle Lohse delivered another quality start to earn his 15th win of the season as the Cards prevailed 7-4.

Poor infield defense doomed the Cardinals early on, and the NL Central leading Cubs made them pay with a 4 runs in the 2nd. Cubs starter Ted Lilly kept the Cards bats in check allowing only a single run in 8 innings. Ryan Ludwick hit a 2-run 9th inning homer to cut the lead to 1, but Kerry Wood and the Cubs held on for the 4-3 win.
