Cardinals vs Cubs

Mark Mulder picked up a hard-luck loss going all 9 innings while allowing just 2 runs. Greg Maddux didn’t allow a run in his 5 and 2/3 innings, and the bullpen held on for the 2-1 win. The Cardinals lone run came on a Pujols solo in the 7th.

This Cardinals squad of mostly non-regulars committed 4 errors and were decidedly second best for most of the game before making it interesting in the 9th. Pinch-hitter Pujols reached base as the game winning run, but So Taguchi struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.

This game started out as a pitchers’ duel between Hudson and Marquis. Marquis took a perfect game into the 5th, but didn’t survive the 6th. Andruw Jones did most of the damage with a solo in the 5th and a grand slam in the 6th. Hudson allowed 1 run in 7 innings to earn his 100th career win.

Miguel Cabrera owned the Cardinals on this night going 4/4 including a double and a homerun. The Cards put up a nice rally in the bottom of the 8th, but it wasn’t enough.

The hottest game I attended all season was also the best. Carpenter and Zambrano each went nine innings allowing 1 run. Cardinals won it 2-1 on Eckstein’s squeeze bunt in the 11th.
